I have a farmall 340 that has a stuck engine, and I need an overhaul kit. The tractor stuck from sitting several years with a bad head gasket. The crankshaft was still in oil, and appears to be alright. Looking from below up with the oil pan off it looks like cylinders 2 and 3 are rusty, under the pistons, on the sleeve. I am considering the inframe rebuild kit from this site, and it lists TISCO as the brand. Is this a decent brand? All of this is assuming that the lower end bearings are ok. The following is the kit I am considering. Anyone have any experience with this rebuild kit

Basic IN-FRAME Engine Kit - Made by TISCO. In Frame Engine Kit, For Models: 330 & 340 up to SN 100500. (C135 CID 4-cyl Gas, 3 14 inch standard bore) For tractors with stepped head pistons).Kit contains complete sleeve and piston kit with rings, pins and retainers, valve grind gasket set and pan gasket. (Part No: BIFH1165) $381.75

You need to soak those cylinders with ATF. I unbolted the rods and drove out the pistons on an A with a piece of 2X2 oak and a hammer. Some of the sleeves came out of the block with the pistons. I pulled the engine since it had so much sludge and used a steam jenny to clean the block. That block has wet sleeves and you should pull the engine and have it dipped. Could be a lot of crud around those sleeve seals. Have your crankshaft measured for wear. Good time to look at the clutch. Hal

I would get the engine out of the tractor. Then take it completly apart and measure the crank to see if it needs grinding. Order the parts after you find out what all it needs. An in frame would be chancy.
