Farmall 706 Gas - lost compression

I used the 706G on the round baler this past weekend with no issues, made 55 bales. Coming home I thought I noticed a bit of a miss but it's been known to foul a plug occasionally, so I didn't think much of it. Went to start it today and it fully misses on #2. Pulled plug and it is brownish gray, not fouled. Did compression check and #2 is 20 psi. I last checked compression during tuneup in March and it was 105. So....either a stuck valve or a hole in the piston. I'm hoping a valve - the tractor is supposed to have M&W pistons in it. Oil pressure holds well at 38 psi and temp runs just below 190.

Which one do you guys think it is going to be, valve or piston, before I open her up?
 
Could also be as simple as need to adjust the valves. As an engine gets older then valve move up and that closes the gap between the rocker arms and the valves so it is possible for you the have a simple valve out of adjustment and that would in fact lower compression

Put the #2 at its TDC on the compression stroke. Lock the brakes in high gear. Put air pressure in the cylinder (20 psi) and figure out where the air goes by listening for the leak in the oil fill hole, air intake, and the exhaust stack! It will show up. JimN
 
Pull the valve cover and watch the valves on No2 to see if the stems and rockers are moving at an idle. Could have a bent push rod. Hal
 
A good way to check the exhaust valve is to rev the engine up and shut the key off. If a valve is burnt you will hear it spittin as the engine coasts to a stop.
 
Well two things here that i am betting on , 1 ya have a burnt valve and 2 that compression is WAY off what it should be so now is the time to do it wright .
