HEY TRACTOR VET/ALLENin NE 450 timing

i removed my distibuter off of my 450 gas trator i though i could get it timed by going off of a 300 utility manual, but i can not get it just right, thpough that i could just put the distibuer to fire on #1 pulled it off swithced hydrolic pumps and started it back up and it ran for a few minutes i shut it off and tried to start it again and it just wont start, redid the gear drive off the hdy. pump again and know all i get it one hellecious back fire,
how can i time this tractor on the hyd. pump?

756puller: You probably have plug wires wrong rotation around the distributor. All you have to do is switch 2 and 3. Most of us have done that one at least once in our lifetime.
