300 wiring diagram

Yesterday I thought I had our problem figured out until I read what was posted. Today I put a rebuilt 6v starter on and replaced the wires again.

When we started it today it acted fine. We ran it for about 10 minutes, starting and stopping periodically. We felt the solenoid, regulator, and terminals and nothing got hot.

We used a diagram out of a 400 owner's manual, and from what we could tell they're identical. I'll ask the same question, could the starter/solenoid have caused our wires and amp gauge to burn up?

A bad connection at the solenoid (on the big terminal that has the battery negative cable hooked to it coulod cause the starting current to flow in a direction that would allow the wire to melt. Two items The starter motor always looks like a direct short to ground. It draws hundreds of amps, and has near zero ohms. JimN
