Farmall 450 Hydraulic pump

The Hydraulic pump is getting air in oil somewhere on the suction side. Takes a while for the pump to prime and start working. Between the pump and the reservoir where most likely could the problem be. Don't want to tear into it blind. Been fighting this for a few years.

First of all do you have any visible leaks in the suction line or the pump? I don't know exactly what the 450 is like, but the 350 suction line has three leak possibilities. They are the connection to the hydraulic unit (o-ring seal), intermediate connection back of engine (hydraulic fitting), and at the pump (hydraulic fitting). If your pump is loosing prime, it sounds like the intermediate connection is leaking as that would allow the hydraulic fluid to flow back into the reservour and the line would be empty. The other two would just suck air when it is running. Roger
