my cub lo boy (late 50s model) cuts out under a load to the point where mowing is not possible-- so far i have replaced the points condenser, checked fuel flow to carb, new float in carb, checked timing, dwell, and compression. replaced plugs and wires. checked air cleaner system, tried running without aircleaner, new carb float, checked for intake and carb air leaks- nothing seems to work-- any ideas?-- one other thing- when it starts to die, if you cut back on the throttle it seems to recover a little- oh yeah govenor is working ok. ?????????

When it dies check to see if you have spark, if not its time to replace your coil. Sounds like the classic dieing coil to me.

Ironicly it sounds like you are doing what many people do when their old Farmall does not run properly. Work on the carb. With the exception og a plugged fuel line, it almost always is igniton. Coils that go bad many times will work well until they get warmed up.

Is the mower the only load you have tried? Maybe the mower is bad causing too much load. Does it start and idle ok or do you have to keep the choke partially closed to get it to idle smoothly? Dave
