Farmall M points problems

Sees as though everyday I want to go run the tractor I have to clean the points to get it to run. Any idea what's going on? It's driving me nuts. It has new points in it.

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Are you getting a lot of rain in your area?? Also are the points covered in oil or what?/ If oil you may have a seal bad some place letting oil into the distributor and that will cause that type of problem

Rained alot this week and am attributing that to the why it wouldn't start 3 days ago but has been dry, just humid the last 2. Havn't run it in 2 days and wouldn't start today until I ran some paper through the points again. It is not currently 12 volts and I make sure I shut off the switch every time I get off the tractor. They are brand new points. Less than 1 week old. I put them on last weekend. There is also no oil in there. It's bone dry. Could it be that water got in there once and now they are just hosed up and will continue to be this way? Does someone make a decent looking rubber cover for the dist.?

Thanks

I have routinely wiped all the seams on my tractors with the blue silicone gasket maker to seal them, after thoroughly drying everything inside. Be sure to file and set the points before before replacing the cap. The thin film is easily broken when you want to access the internals.

Some silicone sealers release acid while curing and will corrode metal parts. If your sealer has a vinegar smell, be careful where you use it.
