What is the differences??

I am new to the whole Farmall side of things. I have been around numerous JD's and growing up my dad had a few Ford tractors. Anyway back to my question, what is the differences between a regular M and a super M??

More HP, faster 3rd and 4th gears, disk brakes standard. Later (Stage 2) had live hydraulics. Other changes are minor. Pages of info in the archives about this if you want all the details, I see no need to repeat what has already been written 1000 times.

M engine was 248 cid, Super M was 264 cid. However... most have been overhauled with oversize sleeve/piston sets that upgraded the M to 264, and the SM to 281.
The serial# tag will be different.
The SM will have disk brakes. Most, but not all, M tractors will have band-type brakes. Lambert disk brakes were installed on some, and sometime in the last year or so of the model run, IH disk brakes were installed on the M.
The SM will have a faster gear ratio for 3rd and 4th gears. 3rd on the SM is very close to 4th on the M.
The SM came in three stages. The first had the same Liftall (belly pump) hydraulic system as the M. Stage II offered Live Hydraulics. Stage III had the mounting holes in the rear casting that would later mount the IH "Fast-Hitch" system. The SMTA was a different model, but in some ways a fourth stage in preparation for the 400 model.
The M came with a horizontal "Farmall" emblem on the front. The SH had a rectangular IH symbol.
There may be some other less-obvious differences between the M and SM models.
