First I would like to Thank El Toro and Magman for their assistance on the Magneto.
Quetion: I am ready to put the lower section of the steering rod back in and do not see any type of seal at the opening toward the steering wheel.
should there be something there to keep the grease in and grit out?
Question no two: It cranked right up when we installed the mag, however it only runs at one speed (probably about half open)no matter which direction you move the throtle lever. What needs to be done to correct this problem?

Go to the parts section of www.caseih.com. look up Farmall M, then chassis, and you will find a seal, etc and the part numbers. If you have had the carb off you probably have the connection in the tube between the carb and the governor wrong -- the rod goes in the slot. You will see what I mean when you take it apart.

where the steering shaft comes out of the bolster, there is an oil seal there. also just inside the oil seal is a bronze bushing. you can get them from case i-h or carter and gruenenwald. carter has the whole kit to rebiuld the bolster for abou 160 dollars, all the bearings, bushings and seals. pretty good price!!

If CNKS isn't right on the throttle, check the throttle plate if you had it off. Could be binding in the throttle bore.

Thanks for the Info. I will check today to make sure the shaft is in the slot between the carb and gov.
