oil in water???

Hi folks,
I've got a '64 German made farmall w/ a 3 cyl diesel motor. It runs fine, but the coolant looks black. When you put your finger in the radiator it comes back with some black stuff that looks like suite, but the coolant under the film is normal looking. The cap has a little foam on it, but I just put that down to it being used so little and not really warmed up most of the time. There is no discoloration, foam or water in the crankcase either and the radiator doesn't bubble/build up pressure like a headgasket would.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks, Dave

Hello Dave2
To find a leaking/weak cylinder you need to performe a leak down test.
Remove injector/spark plug Put pressure into each individual cylinder and time how long it takes for the pressure to go down. A bit of a time consuming procedure but it will show you which of the cylinders is leaking the fastest, and if the head gasket is leaking into the cooling system it will show as well. I would skim/remove as much as possible of the black stuff and run the h@#l out of it. get it to work under load I mean.It think it will be O.K.
GUido.

Drain the coolant and refill with water. Add about a cup of automatic dish washer soap, Cascade or something like that. Run about a half hour to make sure it is completely warmed up. Cover the radiator if necessary. Drain and flush the cooling system. Refill with antifreeze. Watch to see if the oil comes back.

The most common place for a leak would be the oil cooler it it has one. Once they get bad enough they will also allow coolant to enter the oil also.
