Super A right brake pedal

The right brake pedal on my Super A doesn't line up with the left pedal. Is this something I can heat up with my torch and bend back until it aligns with the left one? It only needs to go back about 3/4 inch to allow me to lock the pedals together.

Well, that would be one way to do it. A better way would be to adjust the linkage (rod) going from each pedal back to their respective brake bands. Sometimes if the lining is completely worn on one side, they won't adjust until a major brake job is performed. Good luck. mike

Just being able to lock the brakes together doesn't necessarily mean they're going to grab at the same time either. Gotta get the back of the tractor blocked-up, then in-gear, and with the brakes locked together, adjust until a push stops both rears at the same time.

Are you sure something isn't binding one of them? They should return to the same spot without any problem. The linkages are for adjusting only when they GRAB. They are stopped on their return by butting up against the floor pan.

I just finished replacing mine, along with the 4 seals, and I took pictures, so if you need a look-see, let me know.

I use a torch many times when restoring one after doing the brakes and getting the bands adjusted. Its nice when using brakes to have both wheels stop together.

those right pedals are terrible bad about wollowing the shaft out and push to the right and down when you apply foot pressure i always have a machine shop bore the pedal out to accept a brass bushing then adjust the rods as close as possible then if i cant get the pedals to align up put a hot wrench to it

I had the wollowed out shaft fiexed up real nice with a brass bushing and grease fitting. I guess years of mashing on the brake has slowly bent the bar down a little. I understand about adjusting both brakes to grab at the same time. I just need to get them aligned to start with.
Thanks everybody.

Yes, both pedals are butting up agaist the stop at the floor pan. Its just that 58 years of mashing mostly on the right pedal, i guess, has bent it down about 3/4 inch. I just didn't want to torch on it and then discover it's cast iron and cant be torched and bent. I understand about adjusting the linkage for equal braking.

Yes, I'd sure like to see those pictures. My left side needs seals and a brake band. My right side works great.
thanks

Kandall: Adjust the brakes, I've never seen one of these that wouldn't even up with adjustment unless the brake band is broke. It may take a bit of heat to free up the adjustment.

If the shaft on the right brake is wallowed out, use shim stock. If shim stock is scarce, cut up a beer or pop can. It will make it tight as new for a fraction of the cost of machining and brass bushing.

Right on after 50 pluss yrs they also got bent thats why a torch can be used to get the pedals straight again.
