I recently rewired my W4 (which has a magneto) and installed new headlights on it. It had always worked fine before (charged battery, etc.), and I was meticulous in switching out one wire at a time so I didn't mess up any connections.
Soon after that, though, I noticed that when I turned the lights on, the ammeter needle would fly all the way over on the charge side and one time a wire connecting the "BAT" tab on the regulator to the ammeter began melting after I shut the engine off. The tractor still runs fine, but I haven't been able to make any of these things happen again.
I suspect that the issue is either a faulty light switch or regulator or both. I can't find any places where wires are touching things they shouldn't be and I don't want to fry anything else. If anyone has any ideas what's wrong, I would appreciate their help greatly!
