460 Utility questions

There is a large heavy oblong ring handle attached to a notched plate on the left rear, next to the battery box that appears to have something to do with the fast hitch Whats it for? Its not mentioned in my operators manual

Gary: Long time, since we heard from you. Your friends around Missouri are quite scarce as well.

The lever your asking about is very likely draft control sencing setting for the fast hitch, big D type handle you pull up on with several notches on side for various settings.

Yep been a while Hugh, How are you doing? We never made it to RPRU. My stepson got married June 14th in Macon Ga and his mother had to give him away. I am pretty sure you are right about the handle, Now I just have to figure out HOW it works in relation to a brushhog.

Glad to hear your still going at her with your 460u. Been using mine too much to do any asthetic work on it although I was at the RPRU and found a 460 utlity badge! I had to have PTO work done on it VERY EXPENSIVE. I called to see if it was done today they said it was but the one on the phone couldn't tell me what was wrong the second time in!

I also need instruction on the proper use and adjustment of a FH for variuos jobs. I'm sure we can get some advice here from these more experienced fellas.

P.S. I really enjoyed the lay of the land in your state!!

Gary: I'm sorry I can't be of much help on the tele a depth draft control. I had it on a 560 when new, can't say as I ever saw it do anthing. Quite a poor draft control, in my opinion.

IH did overcome and that fast hitch tele a depth became the forerunner to lower link sencing on 06 tractors. Basically they went from poorest draft control in the business to the best. Just part of the evolution.

I am pretty sure the problem is that it doesn;t come off pressure. (see my question 460 Utility telladepth) Its never been right since I've had it. Its been worked on before and I don;t think they adjusted the rod lenths properly. I would be happy if I could just disable it and have the lever just raise and lower without trying to remember where it was before.
I sold my 424 and I sure miss it. trying to brushhog with the 460 is not the same.

I don't know if anybody would be interested. Quarrick auction in Uniontown, Pa. has a 460 utility diesel that will be sold at it's July 4th auction. It is rough but has potential.

Gary,

I have a single remote on the left side of the tractor below the steering wheel that I have plumbed using pioneer couplers to connect to the FH hoses. My quadrant control for the FH is very fussy. so now my FH is raised and lowered using the lever on the right side of the dash. Kind of a pain when plowing (reaching forward and looking back) but it beats sinking it to China. My tel a depth setup seems to be missing some linkage rod also.

Glad to hear you are still working on your 460 U and you made it to RPRU I used mine to disc up the garden and broke one of the steering arms (been repaired several times) I ended up getting a good used one (75 bucks) from JP salvage and im back in business. I have two levers on my 460U but both are being used for the loader so I am stuck with sorting out this mess.
