Super A - Metal Strap

On page 38 of the owners manual in Illst 38A (right image) it shows a small matal strap right above the oil pan and connecting two bolt heads. If I remember correctly this is the two bolts that hold the oil pump but its been a while since I was working on that.

When I restored my SA that metal strap was all bent and pretty much just hanging there so I took it off. Now I am wondering just what use that strap was?

Its to keep the bolts from backing out. I don't think they would if they are tight enough but why take the chance.

Yep. Actually that strap should have been bent at the corners. Bending the corners up was to keep the bolt heads from backing out.
