Hi, I am replacing the water pump on my 674D and was also going to replace the thermostat but when I pulled the radiator hose off of what I thought was the thermostat housing you could look down in the hole and see that there ain't nothing there. Is the tractor supose to have a thermostat ? Thanks for your time and any help
Scotty

Hi Scotty1, if the thermostat doesn't fix the problem, rev the engine to about 1700 RPM and look at the lower rad hose. If the lower rad hose is being sucked flat then your rad requires steam cleaning.

Had your problem on 454 and rad was all scaled up and a good steam cleaning removed all the scale and let the water circulate properly. The hot water was being pumped out of the engine to the top of the rad but it could not flow down thru the rad tubes because they were clodded with scale.

Hope this helps

Thanks Scott, I thought it was suppose to but wasn't sure because I had a farmall years ago and it didn't have one. On the 674D The old water pump leaked so I replaced it but now the engine wants to up chuck out of the radiator overflow more than it should, was hopeing the thermostat will take care of it.Thanks
Scotty

Should be a thermostat under the water outlet were you pulled the hose off. Someone probabily had a stuck thermostat and just chucked it and never replaced it. Makes the engine run more efficientlly so its a good idea to install a new one, cheap to.
