Adams: I not quite sure what your going to accept as reference material. Most of the books written about IH tractors since production are not 100% accurate. I've found enough mistakes that I don't even buy these books any more. These guys do a decent job on larger tractors, but it's almost as though tractors under 40 hp didn't matter enough to do the necessary research to write a proper book. All Farmall 140 tractors, between 1958 and early 1963 were decaled the same as all other 40-60 tractors, IH on grill, FARMALL and mccormick on side in chrome plated letters and the model emblem 140 is on a metal plate, some of it painted, some chrom plated. In mid 1963 the Farmall 140 grill changed to be the same as 04-06 tractors and the decals changed as well. Decals went back to adhesive type similar to letter series tractors. Again FARMALL with mccormick above it and model number 140 the same. The IH emblem on grill became white metal. Somewhere around introduction of 56 series tractors the Farmall 140 decals changed again. The changes were few mccormick in small letters was gone and the main side decal became INTERNATIONAL and the word Farmall in small print over the model 140 designation. Of course all minor decals were small adhesive stickers and changed with time but I'm not going to even try to follow that. My reference material, I have a late model 1963 Farmall 140 that is original, complete with adhesive decals. I have a 1968 IH buyers guide as well as a 1975 IH buyers guide. These buyers guides clearly show what I've said in the preceeding paragraphs. Now if the guys that built these tractors didn't get it right, I'm wrong as well.
