Is it possible to add a waterpump to a non-waterpump 1948 C?

yes just be sure it comes with the pulley. You will need a longer fan belt also

Can be done, yes. Pump, a different generator brace and a different belt. It will take some improvising to fit it with a thermostat, though.

If you think you need a thermostat you have to change the housing that fastens to the head it will be larger than the outlet os your radiatoe i wouldnt worry about a thermostat. Those engines will run without a thermostat.

Head gaskets are also different between engines with water pumps and those without.

I think the fan blades are a little narrower on a water pump equipped engine. There isn't much clearance between the fan and the pump shaft.
