Hi all and reponce to Don Doyle I had done some trouble shooting today. Pulled rockers and retorch head replace 1 stripped stud. reset valves and Filled tractor with water just before I started it. Full radiator ran for 1 hrs never missed a beat.
Did see some water drops comming out of exhaust.
After I shut it down steam from exhaust so I drained radiator brought #3 to TDC and blow air in to dry out. Pulled exhaust manifold Put water back in radiator with #3 TDC and valves closed
No water in cylinder but water running out of #3 exhaust port so I would think head has a crack in it. Can a valve guide leak water? Thanks for any ideas you may have. oldiron29

Had the same problem on a 10-20 and a Regular. Seems people "back in the day" would just use water for coolant (my theory) and the water jacket casting would rust through into the exhaust port. I ended up changing heads, twice. Not wishing that on ya! But I'd bet that's what you'll find unfortunately...

Good Luck

Unfortunately a valve guide cannot leak water. I agree that the head has rusted through. Had this happen to me in the past with a 10-20.

I didn't! We tried to braze the area shut (we could see the hole. About as big as your pinky) but just about as soon as it started up it started to leak again. Had to get another head.
