Does anyone sell a governor rebuild kit for an M? I see the "rocket" governor listed, but over $500 is a little ridiculous. I just simply want to rebuild mine, not replace the whole darn thing.

Glen: I can't specifically tell you about the M, but when I rebuilt the governor on my Farmall 130 I went to CaseIH. They were able to sell me, piece by piece exactly what I needed. I expect they have the same for all Farmalls. I got off under $50. I can see the M being a bit more as that governor is more complex. It's worth a try.

Hugh, apparently the H and M are quite different, not too many uears ago I priced the individual parts at my local dealer, the price totalled up to something close to $600. Needless to say, those parts did not get ordered.

Rusty Quite different is right. Good reason for old guys like me to keep just small tractors. This is one of the items I quite often get off on. If your just playing around on a limited budget, little tractors will never break the bank. So many times I've seen guys even back in the hey day of letter series tractors, go out and buy that M, 400, etc., only to park it two years later as it is nothing more than a bill of expence. They are great if your bringing in income with them.

Once saw a guy set out to buy a SA, because of price he came home with 460. That thing sat around close to 40 broke down most of the time. He had the money, just lost interest.

Hugh, I guess I own the Hs and Ms more for sentimental reasons than practicality. A farmall A or B would be just the right size for what I actually need, but those smaller offset Farmalls are very hard to find around here, and when I do find one, the seller thinks he has a gold mine. Hs and Ms are plentiful here, there is at least one around just about any corner.

Rusty: I get your drift, the little ones fetch more cash often than the big ones. We have, and I say we as our son Sandy is quite involved, SA, 130 and 140. Sandy wants to find an A and 100 to make up a complete set of that size offset. Like to find one of those in a V or high clear. Just haven't run across what suits.

Of course I've always favoured letter series followed closely by 06-56 styling. Our 53-SA and 63-140 have perfect sheet metal. I often think it would be nice to have a 53-SMD and a pre 1967-656D to go with them, with the matching grills and styling of the two smaller tractors. Then I say to myself, " Hugh catch onto yourself, you have absolutely no use for those two larger tractors." There is a point when old farts should act their age.

Hugh, I know exactly what you mean, I think a 1468 V8 would be a nice addition to my collection, only because of the V8 diesel. But then reality sets in, my little acre and 3/4 just doesn't need anything that big, but I can still dream.
