Has anyone seen a vertical distributor. I have a 1941 H and noticed in other pictures that the distributors are mounted horizontally, but mine is vertical. Is there a benefit? or what is the deal?

They were distributors made by Delco-Remy, generally as a replacement for the magneto. They were also used on some other models of tractors.

I have one on my H, and have seen them on M's also. I haven't had trouble getting points or other parts for them at the local farm supply stores, you just need to be sure and get the kit "for IHC with Delco distributor". I have the Delco part numbers for points, etc. if you need them.

I have a vertical delco distributor on mine, if you need part numbers for the coil, points or rotor let me know I have them for a 1948 H (NAPA numbers)

For some reason 30 or so years ago, people would install a distributor when they had trouble with their mag. Don't try to use the timing marks, they're wrong. I must go to a Massey Ferguson dealer for points for the vertical one, they used this distributor on the 300 combine.

It's an aftermarket replacement for a magneto.
