I have to remove the front pulley from the crankshaft to replace the front oil seal but I have never done this! Does it just pull off with a puller er what?

Others have said it but I wanted to reemphasize. DO NOT USE A 3 JAW PULLER!!! You MUST use a bearing separator or you WILL break the hub right at the belt v-groove. Seen too many done that way. Go to Harbor Freight or Auto-Zone and buy or rent a bearing separator. It is the only way to safely remove it.

You need a puller similar to one that Bigdog made for a Cub. Try this web site.

You can not beat that hydraulic pressure, just be careful. Hal

Hi John, That looks like it will do the job too.
What size cutout do you have in that backing plate? Any snow in MO? Hal
Has been warm here in MD, but it's going to change
in a few days.

The notch is 2 1/4 inch and the plate is 1/2 inch thick. Might be able to use something thinner, but I have broken a 4 ton gear puller doing that job, and it is a pretty good strain on a 5 ton hydralic jack. If you are working on something other than a cub you would need to measure the notch, I don't know if others would have the same size neck on the pulley. The local welding shop charges $35 to make the brakcets and I can ship them for $8.00. I've opened my email if you ahve any questions or want them to make you one. They are not fancy, just cutout with a torch.

Hi John, Thanks for the info, I think I've found a shop that will fabricate a puller for $35.00.
Thanks for the offer. Hal

Not to bad of a job but you need to remove the front end of the tractor to do so, rad, steering etc

You need a back-up plate behind the puller like a bearing splitter or you risk the danger of busting the flange on the pulley. The pulley is a press fit and check for a set screw as some had one. You also need to pull the steering sector as the pulley wont clear the sector.
