Carb Leaking/Flooding

I just pulled the carb from my M. Gas would run out the bottom until I shut the fuel valve and the engine would not start due to flooding. OK I checked the float and other than a rattle (perhaps a piece of solder loose inside ) it doesn't seem to be leaking. I did notice that the float valve would sometimes stick up but That shouldn't cause it to flood. Any ideas as to what I should replace? Thanks
 
Bud If it'll stick up it'll probably stick halfway up which would cause flooding. Anyway that would be the place to start. Good luck Bernie Steffen
 
Did it come apart without ripping the gasket? If so, since you already have the float removed, just lift the needle out of the seat, spray it real good with some aerosol carb cleaner, do the same to the seat, blow both of them dry, inspect the needle and the seat, and if all looks well, just put it back together. I could sell you a rebuild kit, but I don't think you need one.
 
No the gasket needs to be replaced. I guess I will go ahead and replace the valve will I have it apart. Thanks
 
It's almost impossible to get it apart WITHOUT ripping the gasket. Here's a hint. You'll want to use some spray carb cleaner on that NEW valve and seat, otherwise it'll probably be sticking again.

I experienced what you did recently. I have a Zenith carb on my A.
I had holes in both floats.
They were a little hard to detect at first.
In fact, I submerged the float assembly under water overnight. When I took the weight off the float assembly, it came right to the surface. It had very little water in in. Just pinpoint holes. By swinging the float centrifugally, I could see the outer surface of the floats get wet (Starting with a completely dry outer surface). I replaced the float(s) (by that I mean float assembly, as there are two floats. That indeed fixed my problem.
