How do you unstick a clutch?

My neighbor has an International 2424 w/loader.
After all these years, he went and took a power washer to her. Cleaned it up real purrty and then backed it in the shed, that was three days ago. Now the clutch won't release. He's got the clutch pedal wedged down with a pc of wood. He can start the tractor and at low idle slip it gently into gear, forward or reverse. But the clutch won't let go. He slowly drove it into a stout tree in low gear and low rpm, the rear tires just dug into the lawn. He got it away from the tree and I pulled him w/my 4 x 4 down the blacktop road. He left the engine shut off, and tried both 4th gear and then we tried second gear. W/the tractor in second gear I was able to drag it but the rear wheels wouldn't turn. w/the bottom access plate off he can see that depressing the pedal does move (lack of knowledge enters here)"a part of the clutch". He says the pedal has the same feel to it as when it was working properly. Any ideas what to try next? Sorry for the long post.

I have an F-20 I have under cover waiting to restore. It also has a clutche that sticks. Until I have time to address it I have the clutch pedal depressed. When I first got it, the solution the former owner used was to wire the clutch in the depressed position, start the tractor and then pop the clutch. We successfully used that method several times over the course of several days. It was only after it sat for a while that it would stick. I am curious to see what's up in there. I assume some old oil leak has gotten in there and morphed into some sort of burned on compound that holds it froze. I can't imagine what else it could be.

I've seen clutches stick over the winter but never in three days. I would be inclined to believe some of the disc lining has come loose and got wedged between the disc and the pressure plate.

I think you have some excellent ideas below. Whatever you try, make sure you're safe.
I've never done it with a tractor but had to do it a couple of times with a '65 Chevy II I had. Both times, I got it going in low gear, took it out on a back road and, with the clutch pedal to the floor, just kept goosing the gas pedal. Of course it's not that easy to use that method on a tractor. Good luck.

Try putting the tractor in the HIGHEST gear, then with the engine shut down, pull the tractor alternately a few feet forward then a few feet backward with the clutch pedal fully depressed. The torque reversals will usually break it free after a few cycles.

If that doesn't work, get the tractor running at idle and "float shift" it thru the gears until it's in it's highest gear. Then open the throttle, depress the clutch fully and try to stall it using the brakes. The clutch should break free suddenly - be prepared!

Important: Do this where you have plenty of room, can run the tractor safely in road gear and there is NO traffic!

Thanks everyone for the help, I'll let ya know what does it. i told him he ought to put a sign on it "free for the towing" of course I'd tow it to my yard.

Excellent advice. I've used the brakes trick a few times to get a stuck clutch unstuck. It usually works after a while. As BobM mentioned, be careful!

My guess is he got enough water in the clutch to rust it together! Washing old tractors is bad for them, does far more damage than good. Maybe he could stick a skinny pry bar up in the bottom and get it to seperate.

Old post but I will add to it anyway.....
Had a Cub Cadet mower that this happened to very often. I would take a large long screw driver and from the underside, tap it between the clutch and pressure plate. It would snap unstuck.
