F340 12 volt conversion

I have a Farmall 340 with the 6V positive ground electrical system. What parts, wires, etc. do I need for a 12V conversion? Do gages and lights have to be replaced?

Thanks for reply Jim. The diagrams are not clear so maybe I'll have to send for them. Should I use an alternator or 12 v generator for the best system?

If you click on them, they expand to very visible (my system) Either is fine, an Alternator is more reliable, and tops the battery with precision. But it is not stock looking. If youu look at the archives here you will find 3000 entries about putting alternators on farmalls. Yours will be the same as the upper right diagram with a relay based starting system. JimN

Looks like diagram 5, (F super H/M Alt. conversion), will be what I need. I"ll read through the archives and get some more guidance. Thanks for your help.

The only real difference is that yours has a wire running to the starter relay (little canister on the starter with wires) from the ignition switch or starter button. Go for it. JimN

I put a 10si alternator on my 340 a couple years back. 2 of the 3 holes bolted right up. had to fabricate a little metal arm to hold the third position - complex operation involving a handheld blowtorch a couple pairs of pliers, and a brother-in-law :)
