Is there anyone who has information on a middle 1970's 475 International 4cyl Deisel (d-212 Perkins motor) Is this the correct indentity of the motor and is there a source for history on this tractor? Is there anyone out there that owns one of these. Where do I get parts? My International dealer is lost when it comes to finding a listing for this tractor.

I have a 475 (technically it's my brothers but he emmigrated 2 years ago, so it's in my care). Without a doubt the best of the 70's IH's. Basically a 574 with a Perkins 212 engine in it.
The only part I haven't been able to source is the fancy exhaust manifold which is an IH special and has been out of production for many, many years. It now has an MF165 manifold grafted to the original silencer.
It's not the only 74 series I've seen with a non-IH engine in it though. About 2 years ago I saw a 574 with a 4/98 Leyland engine grafted in, which was built specially for match ploughing.
A local agricultural engineer has built a monster V-12 VM diesel (about 450hp) into one too (just as a rolling display really - the gearbox'd last about a second if he really loaded it!) It was in Tractor & Machinery magazine a few months back...
Cheers, JV.

Hi folks, sorry i am a day late but i have only just seen your posts. Heae in the UK IH introduced the 475 tractor in 1974 fitted with a Perkins 4.212 diesel engine. The year before they fitted the German built D210 4cyl short stroke engine and i found on demo against similer horsepower tractors it was gutless. The other reason for fitting the Perkins 4.212 engine was so us tractor salesmen could sell them to MF users and we did very successfully as the 475 was less money to buy as it was a better spec tractor and the 3 point hitch did not go down when you stopped the engine as a MF tractor did. They were the same family as the IH 454, 474 & 574 tractors, but had the Perky 4.212 engine.
This engine was used in MF 165 & 168 tractors.
If u are looking for engine parts, try your Perky/MF dealer and for the chassis parts, the IH 474 tractor is probably the closest.
Where are you located?
Hope this helps.

I have never seen or heard of a 475. I also haven't heard of an IH tractor of that vintage with a perkins engine in it. There may have been, but I have not heard of it.

I believe that is a British built International. If you go to the Massey Harris forum you will find mention of the 475 Perkins in a IH tractor. I'm just quoting what I read. I have no personal knowledge of that tractor.

HughB, I suspect that you are right. Since it is a 75 series tractor, but I never heard of one having a perkins engine in it until recently with the new CaseIH models.
