I have a 1947 H and after I've run it hard for
an hour or so, it will start running rough or even die. If I open the gas cap I get a big
suction. Is there supposed to be a breather hole
in the cap ??

Also, how do you adjust the governor?? It works
well under load, but at idle it swings quite a bit.

Thanks!

When I purchased manuals from Binder Books they included an order form for free gas caps. We have 5 Farmalls so I am defenatly taking advantage of this.

I did order those. It took about 3 months but I got several from them.

The gas cap should have 2 holes in it. I'm not sure what the cost is, but they are fairly cheap. Think they may have had a free deal on them a while ago. Not sure about the govorner.

The best idea would be to go to your Case-IH dealer and get the new safety gas cap. If your cap is the small, flat cap you should definitly get the new caps, which are taller, but vent better. Gasolene is different know then when your tractor was built, and the new cap was designed so that your tractor can operate safely with the new, more arromatic gasolenes. Even if you do have a new style cap, you may still want to replace it- caps are an often overlooked maintenence item according to an engineer I talked with who was involved with this whan he worked for IH.

YES! Take a small drill bit and drill out the hole in the center of the cap. It is definitely plugged up.

On the governor, I will email you a pix and comments. You might have to purchase a new spring, maybe.
