52 super A hydraulic fluid

Any Hydraulic Transmission fluid that meets Caseih, or John Deere specification will work. The ETC
comment actually says that the tractor is not picky and can use any engine oil. That is true. The
Hytran fluid has all the best properties from temp stability, to corrosion inhibitors. Jim

back 'in the day' hydraulic oil was not yet 'invented'. So motor oil was the only option. These days we have a multitude of hydraulic oils are available.they are vastly superior to the old oils. Any will work well in your tractor.

While we're on the topic:

I acquired a 53 Super A with fast hitch. Everything seems to work fine, with no problems and the only thing missing is the temperature gauge which I have not bothered to replace. I use the tractor regularly with a carry-all and with a fast hitch disc that came with it.

Here is my question, I've never paid any attention to the touch control in terms of checking fluid or any other preventive maintenance. I'm sort of in if-it's-not-broke mode with respect to the hydraulics.

I'd be interested in hearing from folks about whether I should do anything. I guess I should obviously check the fluid level at some point (which I assume is an overflow hole on the touch control unit some place) but is there any need to do more?
