Will a 240 run a rototiller?

No. it has plenty of power, but moves too fast in low gear at PTO RPM. Hydrostatic drives are the best, not found in vintage farm tractors of that category. Look to tractor data .com for a tractor running less than 1 MPH at rated RPM, or get a used compact tractor with hydro. Jim

It will in fallow ground that has already been broken up, plenty of folks on here says no but I have been using a 4 foot offset behind my 240 utility for years. I have sandy loam soil so it easy to till. I even posted photos of it on here tilling and they still don't believe it. I also have a 656 hydro with a 7 foot tiller.

Sure it will till ground that's already been plowed and disced, but then what's the point?

Tilling should be a one-pass operation, and these old tractors just do not move slow enough with standard gearing to allow the tiller to break up hard-packed soil.

If I knew how to do it, Id post a video of an M running one, and it does an excellent job. What I dont know is if there were any modifications made to the M or the tiller, nor the brand of tiller.

Certainly if you are buying a tractor for use on a rototiller you should get one with a slow speed. But, I have a 6 foot rototiller on my Super H and it works fine. You just have to go over the ground a couple of times. So in the long run it takes the same amount of time at 1 mph vs 2+ mph with two passes. I have even rototilled sod for the neighbor last year. No matter what tiller you have you can't do that in one pass and get it all worked up. I was rototilling the neighbors garden a couple years ago and a guy stopped to watch me rototill as he didn't believe you could rototill with a Super H. He went away convinced you could.

The purpose is to maintain my garden, which is easy because I do not have to plow or disc. I did that once and now I can do everything with my 240 and 4 foot tiller. I am sure that you
fellows that have brickbats for soil it would not work but it does for me.
