NO you have to remove the flywheel.

(quoted from post at 02:05:55 09/16/18) Is there anything else back there that would leak and look like it is a rear main?

When you have it splitt I would also do the two seals on the front of the transmission.

Thanks for the info and pictures. I'll be climbing under the tractor today and pull the little cover off under the transmission and try to see what I see. Maybe I'll get lucky and it's just leftover oil left in the belly pump-Murphy usually keeps me from getting that lucky though... Not looking forward to splitting. This has a shop built loader on it that would have to come off :(

In looking at it this morning it was hard to tell what exactly is causing the leak. I pulled the belly pump cover off and the transmission seals are definitely leaking. I also noticed a puddle of oil on the floor from where I stopped briefly as I was pulling into the shop last night and the oil is really clean? I felt the oil and it feels to me more like the 90wt gear oil in the transmission more than engine oil. I looked at the dipstick on the engine and it was about a qt low of oil and was not clean-I'm due for an oil change before winter. I cleaned off the bottom of the bell housing and started the tractor up and let it run for about 20 minutes at full throttle in the shed. Crawled under with a flashlight after it was up to operating temp and could not see anything major as far as leaks-I know the felt seals on the rear main will always leak a little hence-the drip hole in the bell housing. The way it was dripping yesterday as I was pulling into the shed was almost pouring. I am a little stumped on this one. I wonder if the leak was more from the transmission than the engine mostly because the oil on the floor is clean whereas if it was engine oil it would be dirty. I'm going to leave it as is for a while and use it but keep an eye on it to try to see if I can determine where the leak is really from. I'm assuming if it is really transmission seals-that would also require the tractor to be split?

No, you can stand on your head and do them from the inspection hole. He recommended it while it's split because it is easy and total parts cost is $10 or less.
