Thanks to all who rendered advice and helped me solve the problem I had with stuck bolts on my seat assembly on my '53 Super H.

My next question is a bit more involved. . .

I knew when I bought the Super H that it had a repaired transmission case that was leaking. The case looks like it has fractured due to being frozen. The repair that was done involved a combination of brazing a plate around the cracked area and JB Weld was liberally applied as a precaution to any further leakage. A few weeks ago I purchased a case to replace the leaking one. I have also noticed that I may have a few bearings that need to be replaced. So, here are a few questions:

1. I have never worked on a tractor transmission before. How difficult will it be to replace this case, including swapping out the transmission, et. al.? Can I split the tractor at the transmission housing instead of the clutch housing?

2. Should I have someone repair the existing case instead?

3. Should I pay someone to do this work (who knows what they are doing) instead?


Overall this looks like a daunting task! However, I covet your wise counsel.

It is not complex. The bull bears are heavy but not bad with a cherry picker or overhead crane. The most precise part is setting the mesh of the ring and pinion. A good manual for the process is needed. search Youtube for several videos (even if not for that tractor they will make sense. If you feel uncomfortable looking at it on TV don't do that part, have help. Jim
 
I believe they can also blow out if a ball bearing from an axle gets caught under the bull gears.
 
Where are you located ? I have a complete back half of a 300 farmall row crop then you could have a super HTA, I am in NW Iowa.
