H wont start

Ive got a 48 H. The starter button went out on it, so I got used to just touching the pos post with the cable to start it. Yesterday, I had started it, and ran it a bit. When I went back to start it again, it gave a grunt/bump then nothing. no spark, nothing. I took off the starter cable and brushed it and the starter post down. Put it back, nothing. Today, I took the batt out of my pk and tried to start it. Nothing. I had batt cables going from Neg to Neg on the batts, and touched the pos post of the pk batt with the cable. Not a spark. Im thinking by now, that its in the starter. Whats your thoughts.?

My H did that sort of thing, I loosened up the hold-down bolts, wiggled the starter loose, and reattached it. Started right up. In my case I guess it was a jammed starter. I later put on 12 volts, and it stopped doing that.

A warning! do not hook a 12v bat to a 6v bat (I assume you didn't, and they are both 12v)
A warning, don't touch battery posts with terminals to make it start. Sparks there will explode a battery seriously injuring you.
If two good batteries are connected as you indicate, and touching the starter lug with a cable from the battery, one of two things has happened.
1} the cable is bad internally or the ground is bad back to the battery
2} the starter motor is open (bad brushes or open field circuit inside)
If no spark, using a jumper cable to ground the battery to a starter bolt then using the positive cable to touch the starter lug, the ground is good
If no spark use both jumpers to bypass the cables all together. One for a ground from Neg to chassis, and one from positive to the starter lug. If no spark or start, the starter motor is bad (open) Jim

I had a problem like that yesterday on my BA. It ran out of gas or I think it did. Put gas in and tried to start it and nothing. Tried a few things and well since I way out in the field I pull the battery thinking ZI would have to lug it back to the shop. I had a short piece of wire with me and did a spark test on the battery and found it to be good. Cleaned both posts and cable ends put it back in and it spun over just like it should. So clean the battery posts and cable ends and give it a try

I loosened the bolts and jiggled it. I had the pos to my pk batt and to the bolt on the starter, Had the neg on the batt and on a tractor bolt. Nothing. I took it off, noting. I spun the gear around with my finger. Nothing. OLD, I had cleaned the starter post

if your cables look old and corroded , make up some new cables, its not that much money to get the correct ends and long length of cable , at least you no they will be brand new

when you say "grunt/bump then nothing, no spark, nothing" are you referring to spark between the battery post and battery cable or spark as in spark plugs?
