46 Baler update

First of all thanks for the help and insight, I have passed it onto my son. I was at a tractor show this weekend and found him a manual and he was very excited! Here are a couple of pictures so far.

The first picture is of the mower he brought back to life, the second is the manual I found him and the third is the picture he sent me tonight of his raking job and the rake he revived. Most of this equipment had probably not been used in 25 plus years. I told him he has earned an A+ so far. Next challenge will be the baler.....he has been greasing, oiling and studying, pretty big accomplishment for a kid and something to be proud of. He was upset that he had broke the pitman stick when he was mowing. I told him to remember it was 25 years old and if he didnt break one once in a while he wasnt doing anything. He found a universal stick and make that work...again pretty proud of that kid. I told him to take lots of pictures baling and hope to share those later. He has Wednesday off of work and college so plans to bale then.

Anybody know what kind or module of rake this is. I had a few IH rake teeth laying around that fit it but never looked too closely at it.

That looks like an IHC Number 5 Side Delivery Rake built from 1952 to 1960. Nice to know there are young men still interested in these machines. If you need a parts list and diagrams for that rake, I have scanned a copy from my catalog.

That is an odball when it comes to the teeth. Only model that used that particular tooth. Yes still avaible new. Earlier ones had flat chain drive, later a roller chain.

My G'pa bought one of those rakes new & it had the flat---detatchable link---
chain for the drive.
Found another one at a sale with the roller chain drive.

Flat chain was 72 1/2 chain which the dealer said was
no longer avail.
Found some at a chain dealer on the bay.

I appreciate that. He said there wasnt much in getting it going.
Luckily all the equipment was under a roof. His next project is
a vermeer round baler.

Way back in the early seventies I bought a used IHC 46 baler at an auction and was trying to use it but it refused to tie correctly so I was riding on back (90 degrees hot n dusty) trying to hand tie and repair/rig it as the wife was driving. An older neighbor came past and remarked THEM DARN BALERS WOULDNT TIE WHEN THEY WERE NEW I HAD ONE LOL

Oh well such were the joys and hardships of a young farmer first operating on a shoestring budget grrrrrrrrrr

Best wishes and good luck
