Farmall M Fuel Strainer Body 64968 D

I think this may have been covered before, but I do not remember the solution. I purchased a replacement fuel strainer body for my kerosene Farmall M. Ordered a genuine one from the dealer and duly received the part. Now it has largely dissolved into a fine paste, which has blocked the fuel strainer, and managed to insinuate itself into the body of the carburetor. I will have to replace the part, but do not want a repeat. Are there good ones being made, or should I look for a new old stock item? I didn't mind paying for the genuine part, but it is clearly not fit for the purpose intended. I have not used ethanol fuel, so do not believe that is the problem. Advice suggestions gratefully received.

Kerosene should not have dissolved that strainer. Niether should gasoline or ethanol. That strainer should even standup to carburetor cleaner with no effects at all.

I have used the filter that looks like plastic with no real problems but like the brass screen which you can clean and reuse.

Has a (American term) sediment bowl with glass bulb decomposed, or a plastic screen inside the bowl melted? Either way, the dealer should make it right. Jim

The filter itself is in one piece, as is the seal, but the alloy body itself is dissolving and has become porous in some places. It annoys me as CaseIH in Australia charged a steep price last time and now say it is unavailable.

this new gas screws a lot of things up. just like my old antique power saws ... this gas melts the ribber fuel line in tank. sure makes a mess.

YT sells them. Some alloys are created with copper in the aluminum. 2024 T3 If even a hint of moisture or dissimilar metal is
used, it will turn to powder/goo. Yours could have been made from scrap. No one complains about the YT parts. It might need to
be trans shipped . Jim

Thank you for the excellent information! Looks like I will be getting one shipped. I wonder if I will have less trouble if there is kerosene in the main fuel tank instead of petrol?

Kerosene or gasoline will make no difference. Ethanol will not effect it either.
