need help///

had to rewire my 300. i used Bob M's wiring diagram using a warning light. after replacing the old wires i double checked my work against the printed diagram. all was good.

started the tractor brought the motor up to about half throttle but the light does not go out. took the alt. to town and had it tested....the alt showed good.

i redid my SC the same way and the light goers out like it should

any comments would be helpful

thanks

Bass - After starting did you try running the governor up to maximum RPM?

The high output (55 and 61 amp) internally regulated Delcos must be spun up pretty fast at startup to "turn them on" and get them to begin charging.

Once turned on the alternator will continue to charge down to slow idle.

bob, i remember reading that the alt has to spin up , so i brought the motor up to full throttle and left it there a while and still the light did not go off.

The lamp in the indicator must be heavy enough to conduct enough voltage to excite the alt. A diode
lamp will not work. Try a side marker lamp, or a dash illumination lamp. or put a 10 ohm resister
across the lamp leads. (a diode will work with a 10 ohm resistor). Jim

use a different light as your warning light, like a side marker..i used one off a parts car fit right in the dash.....was having same problem..side maker fixed the problem...light goes off the second you hit the throttle an stays off even at idle........like jim said....dewy

To see if the light is the issue, use a jumper from the ignition coil key side terminal to the #1 alternator terminal (or the wire going to the light from the ALt #1 terminal. If
it now charges, and the light goes off, it is the light. Jim
