IH 1086 help

!)*^ 3pt will not go down. try to remove top 3pt plate but it is stuck on tractor. how do i get it off? cast will break if I hit it with hammer correct?
 
Yeah it'll break if you *HIT* it with a hammer, but all it should need is a few light taps to break the seal. Deadblow, brass hammer, lead hammer, rubber mallet, if you have those available.
 
Ah three point won't go down you say . Well the draft sensing arm slipped past the arm coming up off the bottom bar. Not a big deal here , remove the top link plate . and no your not going to break it smacking it with a hammer . The gskt is what is holding it , myself i use my top plate removal tool and that is a three pound hammer and one or two good hits on the top of the mounting casting will pop them off not the ears . once off look over in the right side and you will see and arm/ lever coming down from the top and one coming up from the bottom . The one on top needs to be on the back side of the one from the bottom . Use a hook or no less the a good pair of leather gloves to move it in place as things can be sharp and the top arm is under heavy spring tension and it can HURT YOU .
 

This IS the same issue as reported by Farmaller on his 1086 in response to my concern (Ref: Model 784 Rockshaft stuck in full up [transport] position). As tractor vet states, it is quite fixable on that model. Wish my 784 Rockshaft stuck issue WAS as easy.

Tractor vet - ever get into this issue ("rockshaft wont go down") on the 884 and lower # series tractors?
 
well no as believe it or not i have never worked on one only one 584 ever came thru the door . so i don't even have a book on one of them . Sorry .
