What is this

This sending unit is in the hole where the dip stick should be. The wire on the right runs to the alternator and the thing is leaking

How do I replace it

Just scratching my head

Dunno WHY you think that's the dipstick hole, but (no matter) it's NOT.

Someone has installed a "normally open" oil pressure switch replacing a pipe plug in the engine's oil gallery, the purpose of which is to close a circuit once the engine starts and has oil pressure to provide "excite" current to the alternator and (conversely) to open the circuit after engine shutdown to prevent the alternator from draining the battery.

It's one of many ways to do a 12 Volt and/or alternator conversion, and in my little circle of the old tractor world I have set up DOZENS of shystems like that.

They work well.

If you need a part number or two for a replacement pressure switch to replace the leaky one, just ask.

bass, thanks for posting back and letting us know you figured it out.

I had to look at the shop to see what pressure switches I use for this purpose, and hadn't had a change to post back yet.

ANYHOW, for the record, the oil pressure switches I have been using for this purpose are Standard Ignition PS-126.
