Super C Won't Start

Here's what I have done to date:
-checked compression with all plugs out and half throttle--got 150lbs on all four cylinders
-replaced condenser ,points and rotor--cap is almost new and looks great
-checked coil--good spark across plug gap
-lined up timing mark and checked that distributor rotor was at the number one plug terminal
-checked that wires were in the correct firing order
-replaced fill needle and seat in Zenith 12911 carb ( tip of old needle had come off )
-disassembled carb, soaked in carb cleaner and blew out with compressed air. This was a new carb from YT with maybe 5 hours running time ( parade tractor )
-emptied fuel tank and added new gas--I have good flow to the carb

I sent the old original carb to YT last week for rebuilding and will install when I get it back even through I can't find anything wrong with the one now on the tractor
Is there anything else I should try-I'm fresh out of ideas

Go and look what I said in your other posts. Battery bad or starter going bad is likely to be your problem since you say it will fire up on 12 volts but not 6 volts
 
I left the wrong impression. The starter spins fast due to it being on 12 volts. The tractor doesn't even try to start. I only mentioned the 12 volt starting so someone wouldn't think it needed to spin faster. Battery and started are not the issue. I'm leaning toward it being the carb. I'm in time with great spark--seems like if its getting fuel it has to run???
 
Pull the air cleaner tube off the carb. Then hold your hand over the air intake. Spin it over while doing that. When you do you should both feel a good suction and get gas on your hand. If you don't get those you either have bad vacuum leak and a carb main jet clogged up. You might also try spraying some starting fluid In while trying to start it
 
Boy that would explain everything. I can only find one timing mark ( DC 1-4 ) which I have assumed is the top of the compression stroke? Do you know if the Super C's had two marks or due I just guess at 180 degrees??

Take the spark plug out on the cylinder closest to the radiator, key off, coil wire out of coil. This will protect your hand if it fires. Spin the engine with the fan until you feel your finger being blown off the hole where the plug was. You should be close to the timing mark. See that the rotor is pointed to the front (1) plug wire on the cap. hope that helps.
 
Great suction and there is some gas. I shot some starting fluid in the manifold and it popped. At this point I'm not sure if I'm in time or 180 degrees out. When I line DC 1-4 timing mark up with the marker I don't feel any compression. At 180 degrees I get some pressure as my wife holds the compression gage in the sparkplug hole.
Any thoughts on the timing issue?

Cross the plug wires on the cap. Take the #1 plug wire and go straight across the center wire and put it there and that wire where the #1 was and do that at the wire next to what was #1. That will have them 180 out of where it is now. I had a guy call me a while back that could not get his tractor to run and he got it that way. I switched the wire that way and if fired right up who ever had, had it before had the firing order 180 out
 
Rock solid way to confirm "correct TDC" is to remove valve cover and #1 spark plug.

Shine LED flashlight into the chamber to visualize piston crown.

At the "correct TDC" valves on #1 cyl will be quiet on both sides of the piston apex. Its the crossover between compression and power.

At the "incorrect TDC" the exhaust valve will just be closing and intake just be opening. This is the crossover between exhaust and intake.

When there's some play in the crank before one can actually see the piston motion, I make mental note of these positions and then try to split the difference to find the center.

Now set distributor pole to lineup with #1 post on the cap, install wires, 1-3-4-2, the distributor pole moves clockwise on a horizontal distributor as viewed from the driver's seat.

This should be good enough to start the tractor, and then refine from there.
 
remove spark plug # 1, close to front of tractor. put some toilet paper, loosley into the sparkplug socket. bump starter until toilet paper is blown out. # 1 is coming up on compression. turn engine to line up timing marks.

move to distributor, mark # 1 distributor caps' place on distributor (not on cap). remove distributor cap and if necessary , loosen distributor bolt and turn distributor until rotor button, lines up with aforesaid mark on distributor. replace all and start
