Zenith Carb Fill Needle Sticking

I installed a new Fill Valve ( needle? ) in my Super C's Carb and it wants to stick closed not allowing gas into the float chamber. The new valve has a red rubber like tip. Are you supposed to lub the tip?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

We had all kinds of trouble until we got the solid brass
needle from IH. That was around 10 years ago, so the dealer
might not have them by themselves now.

Did you replace just the needed or did you replace needle and seat? You need to do both. Also he rubber tipped needles should have a spring clip that hooks to the float and needle so when the float drops the need has to drop because of the spring clip

Typical of ALL the rubber tipped needle valves I have installed, and that is a lot. I learned to thoroughly clean BOTH the needle AND the seat with aerosol carb cleaner BEFORE installing. A quick spray of silicon lube will guarantee that needle will not stick.

Thanks

Even with a brand new needle and seat, you still need to clean them with carb cleaner. My theory is there is a residue left over from the manufacturing process, and that is what gets sticky. If you clean that residue off, then there is no stickiness.
