question guys : I have a guy that I have known for years, his dad is getting older and wanting to clean up some of his stuff, he asked me if I would want a 560 gas motor tractor and it has a hole in the block and I am not wanting a gas tractor. the question is can I put a 282 diesel motor in ? do I have to change clutch or anything else. I know I will have to do some work to fuel tank but anything else. I would rather save it then let is get scraped, any input welcome.
thanks guys

Or just find a diesel tank. A donor tractor would be best there?s a lot of small stuff that?ll be needed wiring for glow plugs etc Diesel and gas use the same block so it should bolt right in. Be warned that the front timing covers are different between 4-50s and later tractors. Don?t ask how I know

C263 and D282 blocks are NOT the same! While the engines will interchange in the tractor with the correct front and rear parts, the diesel block has one less head bolt than the gas block. I removed a D236 and installed a D301 in a 460 utility years ago, really perked that tractor up. Brother has it still..

Answer is yes if you are putting a complete 282 in.The flywheel, starter(different tooth count), would need to be changed(doubt the gas starter would have enough omph to turn it over good) and the air cleaner and tube is routed differently. There is more blades on the fan which is a bolt on. Of course fuel lines and the throttle mechanism is different. There is a few other small things. I turned a diesel into a gas here after I found out how bad the diesel was. I reused the crankshaft and the flywheel starter because I had it. It starts a gas engine really good. Best to have donor available. I think I traded hoods with the fella I got the other parts from as the exhaust is on the other side..

thanks for reply's, so a 282 will bolt up from what you guys are saying. tractor spec list that as the motor. I think I maybe able to pick one up complete. other question did they have TA's ?
thanks for the help.
