Farmall M timing cover

On my crank when I removed it there was only one key way at the front of the crank and this oil seal splash retainer plate I believe that?s what it?s called it?s the circular plate that goes on the crank. Does this plate just slide out and back on the crank freely like I have it placed or do I need a key way in the second hole to keep it from sliding? It?s been so long since I tore it apart I can?t remember and the parts diagram seems kinda vague.

Lot of them just have the one key installed. When you tighten the front pulley it will keep the oil deflector from moving.
