15-30 question

I have just got my 1926 15-30 running that has sat for 25 years I was told. I was just wondering why they would have the the choke rod facing the steering wheel instead of the crank? All of my F -20's and F-30's face the crank. It's not like you can sit in the seat and crank the tractor..Thanks, Mark

cause when starting you pull it closed from the side . when sittting on the seat there could be times you need to use the choke such as cold start outs.

Good question, was wondering same thing on my 10-20. Got a F-30 that has a homemade choke level mounted to tool box facing the driver, someone used bicycle cable to work the choke? Scratching my head on that one too. I thought it at one time had electric start because there's some holes drilled thru on either side of the frame near the the trans yoke?

My 10-20 has a choke rod sticking out the front and coming out under the fuel tank. Looks like a factory set up.

That's just the way it is, I have had old and new 15-30's and the older ones are set
up in this way. I have a theory that the long stroke and the ensign designed carb
make this a good starting design. Most all of mine get choke until they fire with open
throttle, many times if I am fast enough they will continue to fire on choke until
I can take it off choke and throttle down, sometimes if im not quick enough it will start
off choke the next time I lift the crank. Seems to me this way I have NEVER flooded
a 15-30, always had good luck on quarter turn up cranking on them. The regular has front
access choke as an early option, but the stroke is shorter and needs to be off choke immediately.
