Yes- I have a book! but- the book shows a diagram of all components but not "how" to take apart; Im wanting to put a new seal in there cause it drips oil; I have a cap on mine at the present and three bolts holds it on; so I have taken the cap off- next is a 3/4 wide steel flange- which I presume comes off but it is tight...im using wedges to pull it out...is this the right procedure? Thanks.

I did- what a pain! So by pulling the flange Im also pulling the bearing...then to put in a new seal I will have to pull the bearing out of the flange? Gezzzzz.... thanks for the info.

That doesn't take a modern seal. I think it takes a treated cord like oakum for a seal. Did you find anything like that in that cap?

I havent taken apart yet- waiting on instructions here....do I pull that 3 bolt flange out? Is this seal still available? Thanks.

Go to a site called Fordson House Parts and click on W30 tractor and go almost to bottom of parts list under seals and felts. You will find it there for about $12.00. I have delt with them and are very nice people to deal with.

I called Rice Equipment; they said it takes two seals; one regular and one felt- $40 for the two seals. I have the nut off- the steel sleeve out...and trying to pull out the cast 3-bolt flange; out about 1/4" and doesnt want to come any further- do I force it? Thanks.

Here are several pictures I found of that cap with bearing in it. From the pictures bearing must be stuck on shaft because bearing looks to be slipped on shaft . Can you see any kind of keeper keeping it from coming off shaft?

Awhile back you said you do play banjo. Do you play with a music group? If so, country, bluegrass, old time, or??

Hi , I wish I could find a group; in the middle of Kansas most people never heard of Bluegrass; which is what I tend to play - and fiddle tunes. Just mostly at home - at night when Im not to tired! I will be attending a "Workshop" for the 1st time at our National Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Ks this yr in September - which I have attended for about 35 yrs now...I love it. Thanks for asking:) And you ?

I used a 2-arm puller and it came off- the retainer did- the bearing stayed on the shaft. I can now replace the seals however I may need to pull the bearing somehow and put it back in the retainer to install; the bearing is still in the opening where I cant get a jaw puller on it...always fun right? Thanks.

I wish I had a way copying out of manual. I found my manual for W30 and it has the whole thing in exploded view and everything labeled. The felt packing goes to the outside of that bearing cap.

I sent you an email. Would be interesting to get together and play a few tunes but Minnesota and Kansas are a bit far apart for that. I've heard of the music gatherings at Winfield.

No I haven't got a way to copy anything out of a manual or any kind of a book. I' am old school and still learning things about computers Years after getting first one.

Thats fine and thanks; I can get the seals in now with the retainer off...my question is "since the bearing stayed on the shaft- I wonder if I can tap the steel retainer back on the bearing after the news seals are installed; normally you would have the bearing in the seal housing and then put it on. Thanks.
