You will get different answers to that question because we know they are out there and we know some of
them are aftermarket but advertising on the late models will not show the option at all. I have an IH
manual that shows all the parts for electric lighting and starting for the w-30 but I have yet to own one.
I really think electric starting was developed at the time the letter series were marketed through customer
demand and the close of the depression brought about by the war. IH would have some dealers at that time
having to explain why a customer with a brand new 1939 F-20 couldn't have electric start but he could buy
an H or M with it.

Electric starter was not original equipment on a Farmall F20. There was a company I think it was called Heisler that made an aftermarket kit.

I guess I could understand why IH wouldn't make the change on an F series tractor since production was nearly done. However they did add it to the 1939 F14's.Maybe it was easier as they have more in common with the way letter series were built.

Exactly, and Heisler took the ball and ran with it on the F-20 because they were just as
popular in their time as the H and farmers kept using them beyond life expectancy. Meanwhile,
you know IH dealerships were installing them on used units as requested.

I had a old friend, that's why they said they kept a team of horse's around, they had a U Chalmers, on LP gas, that they converted, that old team of Horse's knew just what to do!

I have never heard of or seen a F-20 electric start with an IHC casting mark. I believe they were all made by Heisler. I have heard that some IH dealers did put Heisler starter kits on F-20s to sell them.

Central Tractor, maybe others, sold a kit to put electric start on them. my brother and I both have Regulars with electric start added. Regulars and F20s were built the same.
