Simpler filter for 350D Utility

When I got my 350D Utility, someone, in their wisdom, had bypassed all three fuel filters, which of course is a somewhat complicated system, and installed a little inline filter in a rubber line, no good for a Diesel. It ran, but would start to heat up a bit, probably running lean from poor flow. Off the trailer and parked. I have come up with a stock- looking, much simpler setup that should work OK, using my memory of the twins on our 706Ds when I was a kid. Seems the 504D used just one of the same filters, like the final on the 706D, same canister- so I found one off a 504D on epay and plan to install on the 350D where the original big filter was, right by the pump. Any reason this won't work? I'm thinking they are similar size engines, flow requirements should be similar

Sounds like one of the prior owner modifications that should make a buyer walk away. Your on the right
track going with a diesel engine filter at least. Your tractor has a Continental 193 cid engine, kinda
hard to find parts for I understand. Could explain why somebody took the original filters off.

And just for your information, diesel engines ALWAYS run as lean as they possibly can. That's how the
control idle rpm, high rpm, full load rpm and no load rpm, ALL by how much fuel they inject, totally
variable fuel/air ratio. And they suck in as much air as they can all the time. NO throttle blade in the
air intake system anywhere.

The filter you have will be fine. I replaced the two original filters on my 560 with one square Stanadyne quick replace clip on type, never cared for the canister style it came with. Also look closely on the intake of your Continental GD193, IH DID use a throttle plate in the intake, which is just plain DUMB! If it's closed too much, and pump brings on the fuel it WILL smoke like crazy. Engine will run fine with the intake throttle blocked wide open at all times, like most other diesels..

Actually the 3 original type filters are available, but just a needlessly complicated and expensive to maintain setup. Went with the 504D deal just so it would be stock-appearing, got lots of practice maintaining the canisters as a kid, as gramps had an IH dealership
