IH 674 - Ignition switch or solenoid?

My 674 will only crank if you cross the solenoid. Key doesn't do anything. Started out doing it once in a while, but now it's a problem all the time. All wires appear tight etc. I'm assuming I need to order a new ignition switch?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, does it have a clutch safety switch? The clutch safety switch will be on upper side of clutch pedal with 2 wires into it.
The wires can be connected together as a test to see if the tractor will start.

As Jimb say likely to have a clutch pedal safety switch which could be bad or yes the ignition switch could b bad or even a wire. I would start at the safety switch

I suspect the problem is your ignition switch. I've had several go bad over the years. Be glad it isn't sticking in start and burning up your starter, which happened once with me. Other times nothing would happen when I turned the switch. The internal contacts in those switches can be pretty cheap. Good luck.

If the safety switch is good. We rewired our 574 same tractor with few horse less so the ether button made the starter connection like the o6,56,66 series does. Been that way for 4or 5 years now with no problems. Then just use the ignition switch for the on off to charge gauges and such. Was always changing the key switch before that.
