1936 Farmall F12 - Couldn't Help It!

I was offered a 1936 Farmall F12 FS68300 (I think April 1936). Missing the drawbar, but has some cultivators on it. Motor is not seized. Has not run for at least forty years. It may need a new oil pressure gauge… Clearly, I was obliged to buy it. Why do I do these things? Probably because it would be wrong not to!

Looking good for its age. Probably won't be to hard to get running. Have you ever ridden on steel wheels - tough on most body parts and I'm not talking about the tractors parts. LOL

I have a Farmall H on steel. It's no problem in the field until the lugs strike a stone just under the surface of the ground; then you bounce hard. As to driving on a hard surface, it is not highly recommended!

I bought a fully restored '37 F-12 last week.Didn't need it either LOL.But it made an old man happy to see it go to a "good home".We just do these things.....Already have 4 1/2 F12,and the two that run are 'highly modified'.BTW,now you now have a "collection". No reason to stop at two! LOL

Clearly there are not nearly enough projects on the farm. My brother thinks I am crazy! I know there will be many things to repair, which you never notice when looking at one of these machines. On the other hand it was built eighty two years ago and is allowed to have some problems. Also, this one was made during when grey paint was still being used on them and I like that colour scheme.

I had steel on the back of my F14 with cultivators one year. The dry dirt got inside the rim and just traveled around and around creating a little dust cloud that followed me around the field. That and other reasons I soon went back to rubber.

Indeed! An all over iron oxide! The fuel tank looks like something has struck it, though not hard and the petrol pipe is gone. The other F12 had the same problem - fuel lines rusted through. Also the magneto on this one has a nut on the side of it, rather like the short circuit connection for an H4 magneto…

According to my Dad, farmers were afraid the rubber would wear off and "Poison" the soil. After a year on steel, he took a chance on rubber tires. His/my F-20 still has the 1938 tires (and new tubes).
