My dad got a 504 last fall. The ta was way out of adjustment. I adjusted it and tried it. It killed the engine. So I put it back where it wouldn't engage and used it the way it was. I pulled the inspection cover on top. I discovered all three fingers on the ta pressure plate are broke off and the disc is cracked. I am wonder if I can get by just replacing those parts? Or did the ta malfunction and cause them to break?

If your adjustment caused the TA throwout to hit the PP it would do that. Probably only needs a TA clutch, but careful inspection is needed. Jim

With out the T/A clutch working the tractor can/will be harder to shift when not on the level. I had one on a 560 that the T/A pressure plate cracked and caused all kinds of shifting problems.Should split the tractor and repair.
