Dumb thing on a J4 mag

I had the points out of my Cub with a J4 mag yesterday, looked up the gap and gaped them wrong anyway. I set it for a distributor, not a mag. I discovered the mistake while looking on this site for new points and it said to gap at 0.013. Its too late tonight to re-gap them and see if the tractor starts. Been cursing the tractor all day. LOL Feeling a bit dumb at this point. I guess I have done dumber things.

I would have thought it would still start might be off time a bit from the gap . Would expect it to be tight together that would not start.

Point gap is important as it affects the edge gap which makes for a hot spark. Points have to break when the magnet rotor is in the right position for the best spark.

just because the point setting is off a bit will not cause a no start. have seen points darn near closed and the engine ran, long as their breaking the circiut. wont run top notch though, lol.
