Farmall 200 battery size

I bought two farmall 200's at an auction. Both had been converted from 6volt to 12volt. Neither had batteries.
I purchased a new 12v battery and it physically is far too big for the battery box. I've seen photos online of 200's with the battery tied in with rope or fastened with a cargo strap. I went the cargo strap route, but the tractor seems more embarrassed about this that I am.

What is the size of the battery that goes in the battery box? Sellers and manufacturers have no data on which of their batteries is 12"x14" or whatever size you need. Its a series 12 or 53dm12 etc etc. Getting frustrating.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks emp1953

When I sell a conversion kit I recommend using a group 26 when replacing the group 1 (6 volt) when doing a 6 -12 volt conversion on a lot of these small tractors like Cub, A, B, C, & H size tractors. I'm guessing the 200 would also have a group 1 battery when it left the factory.

I'll check with my local Tractor Supply store and see if they have a group 1. Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know anything about these tractors. I have a carburetor question also.

Get a box at the junkyard that the battery will fit into. Then make cables accordingly. I would go with the Group 31 stud top battery for anything needing a change. Easy to hook up with the studs ,no cleaning and no over tightened clamps to contend with.

I standardized on an Interstate MT35 (Megatron ii) for my Super A and Fcub.

Its 9" x 6-7/8" footprint, and is 8-3/4" tall.

This is critical on the SA because of hard parts both front, back and side of the battery. However, I cheated on the Cub and bent my own battery pan to match the MT35's dimensions.

I think group 1 is a 6V battery.

I would go with a 26 if it fits, there are right and left versions, so get one that lines up with cables, otherwise a garden tractor battery will be fine.

If I ever convert our C I'm going to use the biggest garden tractor battery, I think they're about 360 cca. Put some wood blocking in the existing box to restrict movement. I understand they crank over a small Farmall just fine. So far it starts just fine on the 6 volt system.
