cab heater help

I just bought my first cab tractor, a 656 diesel & the heater doesn't work. The 2 fuses look fine. I need some info on where to start trouble shooting. Thanks for your concern & help. Ken C.

When you say the heater doesn't work, do you mean it isn't blowing hot or it isn't blowing at all? Those two different issues are much different in troubleshooting.
I assume you meant there is nothing blowing out, so:
If the fan isn't blowing, I would look at the blower itself, the switch for it and the wires/fuses. It sounds like you have already checked the fuses, so I would check for power at the blower to rule out wiring and the switch. If you have power at the blower but it's not working, then that is a bad blower or bad ground. If you have no power, then work backward towards the switch.

My heater motor stopped working in the middle of the winter and I found it would work if I reached in with aa long screwdriver blade and gave the fan a spin to get it started. When I got a chance I took it apart and oiled the motor and it has been working for the past few years. It might be worth a try.

Sorry, I meant to say there appears to be no power to the heater. I assume that I will have to remove the large cover in order to see the wiring. The cab is a "Year-Around-Cab". Thanks for your help. Ken C.

Good news, I found the 2 hidden tabs on both sides of the unit & was able to drop it down. The biggest problem was the blower switch which was all caroded. The spade connections on the 2 fuses were also not good. With a hot jumper wire, all 3 speeds of the blower worked, the interior light & the windshield wiper also worked. After these repairs, I hope I get heat. Thanks to all. Ken C.
